New Program Updates
Master of Science — Dental Hygiene
The inaugural class, of 12 students, has begun their courses. Two students even come from as far as LA each week.
AEGD
Beginning July 1, 2011, 8 residents have been placed at 4 sites in Northern California for their AEGD training. They will finish the one year program in June 2012.
Honors and Awards
- Sunita Ho was selected for the US/Canada Bone Joint Initiative Program for Young Investigators
- Sally Marshall received the UCSF Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award
- Bill and Sally Marshall issued a patent with Lawrence Berkeley National Lab colleagues on bioactive glass/ceramic coatings for implants
- Beth Mertz gave the prestigious Columbia University 31st annual “Percy T Phillips Memorial Visiting Professorship Lecture”
- Francisco Ramos-Gomez, a PRDS Volunteer Faculty Member, received the 2011 NDAF/Colgate-Palmolive Faculty Recognition Award in Research for his CANDO randomized clinical trial, GIFVT
Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry
The UCSF Geriatric Fellowship in Dentistry, Medicine, and Mental/ Behavioral Health is a 1 or 2 year program that offers interdisciplinary training in the care of older adults. Upon completion, fellows are prepared for the specialty examination by the American Board of Specialty Care Dentistry. Please speak to Dr. Susan Hyde (susan.hyde@ucsf.edu) to learn more.
Noteworthy Events
- Bill Bird retired as Interim Department Chair effective 9/30/2011. We look forward to his return as an Emeritus faculty member in November
- Lisa Chung and Michal Staninec attended Forsyth/ADA EBD course
- Sunita Ho was elected to the School of Dentistry Faculty Council
- Susan Hyde was appointed Interim Division Chair of Oral Epidemiology and Dental Public Health
- Sally Marshall presented at UOP’s Research Day on Sept 20, 2011
- Eileen Valasco recently became the Implant Program Coordinator
