Biomaterials and Bioengineering

The mission of the Division is to provide outstanding educational and research programs relevant to biomaterials and bioengineering in dental and oral health for dental, graduate, and post-doctoral students at UCSF, and to conduct leading edge laboratory and clinical research programs in areas related to biomaterials. To accomplish this mission, the Division provides courses for predoctoral dental students at UCSF, graduate students in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences MS and PhD programs, and graduate students in Bioengineering. The Division conducts a broad range of laboratory and clinical research in biomaterials development, calcified tissues, cariology, adhesive dentistry, implants, optical diagnostics and therapeutics, restorative dental materials, restoration degradation and failure, and modeling.
